Control Systems News

International manufacturing company Kerry Foods have had an Energair SX8 control module installed within the compressor Suit at their Listowel plant. The objective as always is to reduce energy directly relating to their six oil-free compressors but a secondary benefit is the equalisation of running hours and adjustable pressure band control. The SX8 is the intelligence component of what will eventually be a proactive on-line all encompassing system, capable of interaction with the client’s own management system and CPA service support.  Alert software will monitor performance and deal with exceptions as they occur.

We have recentlycompleted a series of Energair controller and retrofit variable speed drive installations on behalf of the TARMAC GROUP.

These include converting the FIXED SPEED Atlas Copco compressors at Leeds and Blantyre to VARIABLE SPEED units.

The upgrades were commissioned after detailed systems analysis, which identified significant savings through reduced energy use.

CPA continues to offer advice and assistance to the TARMAC group in achieving the optimum energy to production ratio for compressed air equipment. And projects are ongoing.

Baxter Healthcare, castlebar have entrusted CPA with the task of reducing their costs relating to the manufacture of compressed air. Realistic savings in excess of €36,000 per annum have been identified, and the work required to achieve these results actioned. The inclusion of an EnergAir management suit among other additions and changes to the system design has turned a basic and inefficient installation comprising of Atlas Copco fixed speed and variable speed oil-free compressors into a highly efficient package.  The EMAS Manager software in turn allows the client to graph and trend the energy to air relationship and unlike other systems actually prove the savings in real time.

Control company Honeywell have recently upgraded their entire compressed air generation suit within the Motherwell plant comprising of 4 new Aircom-Bottarini rotary screw compressors.

These new compressors utilise the latest Gardner Denver air-end technology along with CMC control modules. CMC are in turn the parent company of ENERGAIR who supply their controllers to many compressor manufacturers for ‘badging’. The existing Compair control was an early Energair model and we were able to ‘Flash’ new software to the unit making it an up-to-date model at zero cost to the client.
